There was a dream that we had long ago of a future we all could enjoy
There was a hope in our hearts that we worked towards, a strategy we could employ
We’d all work together, we’d work hell for leather
To bring us prosperity, health & longevity
We’d have it all, how could we fall? Naively we believed it all
House that crumble down, dreams that then tumble down, this is the place where we live
Freezing in winter’s cold, starving both young and old, what sort of future is this?
Scared to go out, just as scared to stay in
Scared of murder and rape, scared of no escape
This is here this is now, this is any old town and it’s happening now, look around
Always encouraged to look after ourselves
But that means we all end up fighting among ourselves
Fighting for slices of one very small pie
So fight for your lives or give up and die
Somebody somewhere is doing quite well from this
They must be laughing at our futile efforts
To better ourselves, to procure us Some wealth
That is so out of reach, so out of reach
Time that we all stopped and thought what we’re doing and looked for a better way
I don’t believe there are so many people who want things to be this
Time for some trust, time to shake of the dust
Of this modern society with ancient philosophy
Your life is today and it won’t go away, don’t bury your head in decay
